Beautiful Change Challenge #3 - Spring Cleaning

It’s getting warmer out and it’s officially Spring…yay! It’s the time of year for the ‘grand switch.’ This is what I call swapping out Winter clothes and Summer clothes in our drawers and closets. I have a few huge Tupperware containers that I keep all of our off season clothes in, and when the seasons change we swap out what’s in our closets for what was in storage. I store the containers in my basement until the next season.

Here are some ideas for Spring cleaning season:
  • If you didn’t wear it last year, you won’t wear it this year.  Donate clothes, shoes and accessories to Purple Heart or the Salvation Army. Make room for new trends in your closet
  • Having a bag ready for Purple Heart also encourages (and challenges) me to find other household items I’m not using any longer. I usually leave the bag(s) out for one week before scheduling a pick up.  I’m always finding stuff I can get rid of it and help unclutter my home.
  • Find a consignment shop near you for clothes that are ‘like new.’ If you have gently used clothes that you’re not going to wear again, try bringing them to a consignment shop. Consignment shops usually take in season clothes that are only gently warn (no deodorant stains, holes or visible wear). If they take on your items, you get a cut of what they sell for (I think 50% is normal). Extra cash for shopping trips!
  •  It’s garage sale season! I’ve never hosted one, but I’ve always gone in on friends’. This year, I’m joining forces with my neighbor to offload some household items we don’t use anymore.

If you find yourself giving a lot of clothes away, maybe because they were last year’s trends, then it’s important to think about this during your next shopping trends. I love joining in on new trends, but if a trend is very extreme (example, neon colors) then you most likely won’t want to wear that the next year. So to cut down on what you get rid of next year, try maybe adding accessory trends to your wardrobe, which are usually less expensive (Forever 21 and H&M are great for this) or pieces that aren’t extreme in trendiness (for example, color blocking with more neutral colors will carry over to other seasons).

What are your Spring cleaning tips? Please do share!

Week in Chicago

I’m in Chicago this week for work. Any fun beauty events going on in the city I should know about?

5 things I’m loving about Chicago right now:
1) The weather is beautiful…73 degrees!
2) I’m staying at the Amalfi hotel, which is connected to my building, making my morning commute a 5 minute walk indoors instead of 30 minute car ride.
3) Walking to Forever 21 with my teammates. Nothing says team bonding like a shopping trip!
4) Comfy hotel beds and not having to make them in the morning.
4) Aveda mini toiletries. Rosemary Mint is the best!

Eucerin Skin Calming line

If you're familiar with my blog or know me personally, you know that I have eczema. It's manageable, but sometimes it will flare up out of nowhere and I become an itchy mess. I was excited to try out Eucerin's Calm line because it's suppose to be great for those with itchy skin.

All 3 products felt so good on my skin and didn't irritate it at all.

The Eucerin Skin Calming Daily Moisturizing Creme is a gentle non-greasy formula that combines calming oatmeal and rich emollients. It's a thicker cream, but doesn't leave your skin greasy, and it soaks in really quick. My skin still felt soft 24 hours later from using this after my shower.

Eucerin Skin Calming Itch-Relieve is an external analgesic lotion for itch skin with cooling menthol and natural oatmeal.  It doesn't have a strong menthol smell, but definitely has the cooling effects. This felt good on my irritated skin, and helped me from getting itchy at night.

Eucerin Skin Calming Body Wash combines soap-free cleansing with omega oils and other natural lipids. This makes a great bath soak! It's an oil-like soap that rinses clean, with no scent. I added a shot to my bath under running water and it bubbled up into a soothing bath.

If you have sensitive, dry, or itchy skin I would recommend checking this line out.

CND Shellac Layering - Asphalt and Negligee

I really like layering Shellac Negligee over the darker Shellac colors. Pictured is two layers of Asphalt and one layer of Negligee (and of course base and top coats). It has a bit of a denim look to it. Easing my way from winter to spring colors!

Beautiful Change Challenge #2 - Beauty Routine

Now that Summer is around the corner I want to try and tighten up my morning beauty routine. With a shorter morning regime I can get to work faster, and ultimately, leave earlier, at the end of the day, while there is still plenty of sunshine left to enjoy.

I challenge YOU to do the same, not just to shorten up your routine but to also make positive changes to your routine.

The longest part of my morning routine is my hair. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to add product, dry and style every morning. And what’s worse, is everything I do is harsh on my hair. Even though I add leave in conditioner and oils for smoothing, drying it with high heat and then using a straightening iron is really tough on hair.

So as a challenge, I’m going to try and be less harsh on my hair. Here’s how: I’m not going to wash my hair every day. I’m going to try and only wash it 5 out of 7 days of the week. On my non-wash days, I’ll use a dry shampoo to restyle.

A celebrity stylist once told me that short hair looks better the next day without a wash, and I’ve found it easy to go a day without washing. I also have best friend who has long thick hair and she can go up to 3 days without washing and using dry shampoos. So no excuses, it can be done!

Are you going to try my challenge? If so, please tell me about it in the Glam chat below. Are you going to try something else? If so, please share!

One Night in Atlanta

I was in Atlanta this week for a work event and enjoyed every second of the 80 degree weather. I always have fun when I’m in Atlanta, whether its for work or pleasure.  It’s a fun city filled with very nice people!

We stayed at the W Hotel in Midtown and it was super swanky! W Hotels never disappoint, but I was especially impressed with this one.

View from my room while I did a BodyRock.tv workout in the morning.

I love little toiletries! My mom is probably shaking her head right now, and my dad is probably so proud (I get my hoarding skills from my dad :)! I had to hold on to these Bliss mini bottles. So cute! Hand lotion (perfect for the purse), shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and a special treat…face wash! These make great travel companions and are terrific for gym bags.

All in all it was a successful business trip and great time in the city. Next week - Chicago bound!
