What do you think about Heidi Montag's Surgeries?

After going under the knife for ten cosmetic surgery procedures in one day, reality star Heidi Montag is nearly unrecognizable. New York City plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Nina Naidu offers insight into just some(!) of Heidi’s recent procedures, including whether she thinks the surgeries were a success…

RHINOPLASTY – It is amazing how a nose job can completely change a person’s face. Think of Ashlee Simpson, or further back Jennifer Grey, whose appearance changed drastically after her procedure. Heidi’s new nose is a big part of her total transformation and I would give it a thumbs up. It looks very nice and natural.

BREAST AUGMENTATIONThe first priority in breast augmentation is to fill the breast tissue while providing maximal coverage of the implant. For that reason, every patient is different in terms of how much volume is needed to achieve an aesthetic breast, since the base width of the breast, the tissue stretch in the breast and the amount of native breast tissue must be considered. These factors determine the optimal size of an implant and the location.

“The bottom line,” Dr. Naidu says, “is that the implants Heidi has are far too big for her soft tissues. Her initial breast augmentation was very attractive and filled out her breasts adequately.”

The problem? Patients often do not understand the consequences of getting very large implants. According to Dr. Naidu, putting very large implants into Heidi, as was done, caused her tissues to stretch beyond a capacity that will sustain them in the long term. “They may look good to her now, but with time her skin will stretch out and those implants will drop, producing a saggy breast and creating additional issues that will require more surgery. She will most likely need a breast lift at some time in the future, requiring additional incisions on the breast,” says Dr. Naidu.

BROWLIFT – Several studies have evaluated the effect of the brow position on the aesthetic female face. According to Dr. Naidu, surgeons try to elevate the lateral brow to the extent that the arch of the brow is placed just lateral to the iris of the eye. This arch ideally should come just over the bony brow itself in women, while a straight, no-nonsense type of brow achieves a masculine look in men.

“Heidi Montag’s upper face looks very attractive now as a result of her altered brow position,” says Dr. Naidu. It has certainly given her upper face a very feminine, sultry look. But overall, she received a lot of surgery in one sitting, especially considering her age. This is something which I actively discourage in my own patients.”

Nina S. Naidu, M.D. is a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in New York City. Dr. Naidu received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College and completed her general surgery and plastic surgery training at New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center. She has authored numerous papers in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery and is currently conducting a survey among her peers to uncover the latest trends in breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Naidu is also the creator of Anokha Skincare.

Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette

NEW YORK, NY — Inspired by the upcoming Disney film, Alice In Wonderland, scheduled for release in March 2010, Urban Decay today unveils its upcoming line of eye shadows as an Underland-inspired dream come true. The book of 16 gorgeous eye shadow shades was inspired by Alice’s whimsical and colorful adventure — a “curiouser and curiouser” hike through twisted vines and skyscraping toadstools.

The limited-edition palette opens to a playful pop-up scene of Alice and her journey through the mushroom forest. Having just ingested the contents of the fabled “drink me” bottle, Alice has shrunk down to a tiny size and is staring upward toward gigantic mushrooms and one very peculiar caterpillar. The mirror rests in the background, transporting you into the film itself. The book-like cover is adorned with a lush black pattern and copper foil deco with teacup details.

“Tim Burton’s interpretation of the classic story of Alice In Wonderland will excite Disney fans in a whole new way and spark demand for edgier products inspired by the story’s heroine and her fantastical world,” said Johanna Mooney, director, Health & Beauty for Disney Consumer Products. “Disney Consumer Product’s collaboration with Urban Decay marks a continued emphasis on bringing beauty products to consumers that resonate with their sense of style and highlight current trends and color palettes,” said Mooney.

The limited-edition Alice In Wonderland-inspired Book of Shadows includes 16 best-selling eye shadows, as well as two travel sizes of 24/7 Eye Pencils and one Eyeshadow Primer
Potion. Disney and Urban Decay worked together to develop names for the eye
shadows reflective of the many topsy-turvy people and things in Underland: Underland, Alice,Oraculum, Queen, Chessur, White Rabbit, Wonderland, Curiouser, Muchness, Mushroom, Midnight Tea Party, Vorpal, Absolem, Drink Me, Eat Me, Mad Hatter, Jabberwocky.

"When we met with Disney and heard about Tim Burton's vision of Alice in Wonderland, we were so excited to create a palette that reflected his distinctive interpretation of the story,” said Wende Zomnir, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Urban Decay Cosmetics. “We dove into the project, working on shade names inspired by the film, and recreating the journey through the mushroom forest; it's our way of giving an edgy and modern spin to this classic, but dark and curious story," Zomnir said.

The Alice In Wonderland-inspired Book of Shadows from Urban Decay available in January 2010 for $52 at Sephora, ULTA and Macy’s or online at sephora.com, ulta.com, macys.com, and urbandecay.com.

Completely Buff Exfoliating Crystals

My skin has been so dry and dull lately! I've been trying to stay away from trying face washes with exfoliating beads, but I still need some time of exfoliation once or twice a week to keep away dead skin cells.

I tried out Completely Bare's Completely Buff exfoliating crystals and they seem to be a good answer to my struggle. 1-2 times a week I take a pinch of these crystals and add them to my face wash. The result: smooth, non-irritated skin. You literally need just a pinch, so a little goes a long way.

According to the Completely Bare website, Completely Buff is suitable for any skin type. It's a gentle blend of ultra-fine aluminum oxide crystals that, when mixed with your facial cleanser, becomes a gentle exfoliating product. The Buff exfoliator works overtime to encourage cell regeneration.

How To: Tousled Waves

Check out the tousled waves on Zoe Saldana, Juliea Roberts, Fergie and Emily Blunt. They were rocking the waves on the red carpet at the Golden Globes.

Want the look? KaceyEve Stickel, Expert Hair Stylist at Gatsby Salon in Green Brook, NJ (www.GatsbySalon.com) gives us step-by-step tips and tricks to perfecting your own playfully tousled style!

How to:

1. Apply a volumizing or thickening spray on damp hair and finger dry hair to give volume and a more tousled look.

2. With a medium round brush, blow out the bangs sweeping softly to desired side. (if necessary)

3. Touch up hair with 1 1/2" in barrel curling iron by taking large sections. Small sections will make a tighter curl instead of a wave.

4. Apply a shine serum to hands (use a very small amount otherwise you will make hair greasy), flip your head over and run your fingers through your hair.

5. Finish with a hairspray to hold the look throughout your evening

Product Recommendation: Gatsby Salon Multi-Dimensional Primer ($15), Give Me Shine ($11.50) and Structura Shaping Spray ($14.95) (call 732-752-4247 for ordering information)
