Get the Look: Kerry Washington by Neutrogena

Kerry Washington looked stunning last night at the Golden Globes. Seeing her made me even more antsy for new episodes of Scandal! Kerry is a Brand Ambassador for Neutrogena, which created her look last night. Below are the details on the inspiration behind her makeup and hair, and how to achieve this look!

Makeup Artist: Carola Gonzalez

Makeup Inspiration:
Today's inspiration sprung from the design of the dress, Greek designer Mary Katrancou, 1950's silhouette with a modern edge. I wanted to accentuate Kerry's eyes with a modern twist. I kept it pretty simple, a black line all around the eye layered with a shimmery dark grey eye shadow to break away from the usual black liner and add a spark to the eyes. The lips I kept sheer with a hint of color to compliment the fuchsia shade of the dress without overpowering the eyes or final look.

Cosmetic Get the Look Breakdown:
To begin the Golden Globe's makeup process, I began by prepping Kerry's skin with Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizer. During winter months skin is dryer than most months, out of the year, and Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizer is the way to go. It's truly a skin quencher, it adds just the right amount of moisture needed without making skin look oily. Once fully absorbed I start by highlighting under the eye area and then applying foundation all over face to even out skin: I used Kevyn Aucoin Skin Enhancer SX13.

I proceeded with Kerry's eyes using Neutrogena Nourishing Eyeliner in Cosmic Black. I lined the eye all around the outer area of the eye, around lash line. Then lined the inner rim of the lower lash with the same liner. Since I wanted to give the appearance of a shimmery liner, I layered the eye liner, using a tiny brush, with the new Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear eye shadow shimmery dark silver from the Smokey Steel Palette. (the third one from the top).

To complete the eye makeup, mascara is a must! I applied a couple of coats to the upper and lower lashes with Kerry's favorite mascaraNeutrogena Healthy Lengths in Carbon Black.

For the cheeks I always like to add an extra touch of glow and color. In this case I chose Neutrogena Healthy Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Posie Glow. I got two shades in one, the perfect combo, to create the desired radiance and color for the look. I applied it from the apple of the cheek in an upward motion towards the temples.

The lips are always my last step, choosing the right shade is critical to the final look. Since the dress already had a vibrant color, I decided to go with a sheer berry lip to compliment the fuchsia shade of the dress. I used Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick in Bright Berry.
Hair Stylist: Takisha Sturdivant-Drew

Hair Inspiration:
My inspiration for Kerry's dress was it’s a period look with a modern edge to it. So I wanted to do the same for her hair. I decided to pull her hair back but nothing to serious, so I kept it very tight on the sides with some height on top, and gave her a messy centered bun with some twists and braids. It's a modern look, but with a flirty feel that's always fun.

Hair Get the Look Breakdown:
I shampooed and conditioned her hair with the Neutrogena Triple Repair Fortifying Shampoo and Conditioner. Then I left a dime size of theTriple Repair Fortifying Leave-In Treatment to protect her hair from the heat and give it a great shine. Secondly I blew her hair out with a comb attachment blow dryer, but left some texture in her hair. Then I curled certain pieces of her hair with my 1-inch curling iron. Finally I teased her hair on top and in the center, took her hair and pulled it into a messy chic bun. Her hair went well with the Mary Katrancou Dress and it was a great

Get the Look: Kristen Wiig by Tracey Levy for Charlotte Tilbury

I loved Kristen Wigg's fresh look on the red carpet last night. Her makeup was done by makeup artist Tracey Levy. Here are the steps she used to create the look:

1. Charlotte Tilbury Goddess Skin Clay Mask (launching in March) was used to prep the skin by smoothing the skin and totally blurring all imperfections while minimizing the appearance of pores.

2. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream was used generously on Kristen’s skin for the perfect amount of moisture. The Magic Cream was also an excellent primer for the makeup.

3. Levy prepped Kristen’s lips with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Magic Balm (launching in March).

4. Levy then brushed a wash of the #1 Prime shade from Luxury Palette in The Sophisticate all over Kristen’s lids. Levy then added a light dust of #2 Enhance shade through her crease. She then used the #1 color from Luxury Palette in The Vintage Vamp on her lid for a highlight.

5. Levy then used a small brush and applied Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Las Salinas (launching in March) along Kristen’s lash line and outer corner of her eyes. Levy used this as a base to blend the two darker colors from the Luxury Palette in The Vintage Vamp to create a reddish-pink. Levy then applied a bit more of the #1 in her inner corners.

6. Levy used a Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler to curl Kristen’s lashes before applying a light coat of Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara in Glossy Black.

7. For the face, Levy lightly blended a mix of Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in 4 Fair and 6 Medium, keeping the lighter mix in the inner part of Kristen’s face and blending the darker towards the outside. Levy used a foundation brush and blended with a moist beauty blender.

8. Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher Concealer in 2 Fair and 4 Medium were then blended with Levy’s ring finger and a beauty blender. For the highlight, Levy used Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow along the top of Kristen’s cheekbones and the bridge of her nose.

9. For Kristen’s cheek color, Levy mixed the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Las Salinas on the outer top of her apples blended upwards then Levy blended the Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick in Formentera under the apples and out for a bit of dimension.

10. Levy then lightly set Kristen’s makeup with touch of Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in 2 Medium.

11. For a bit more “punch,” Levy dusted a bit of Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic in Love is the Drug. To enhance the highlight of Kristen’s cheekbones, Levy dusted Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow under her cheekbones and jawline.

12. Kristen’s brows were natural but enhanced with Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift in Cara D and Brooke S.

13. Kristen’s lips were then finished with a bit more Charlotte Tilbury Lip Magic then defined with Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk. The lips were filled in with a soft finger and Levy applied Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Very Victoria (launching in fall 2015).

14. Since Kristen’s dress is over the shoulder, Levy rubbed Charlotte Tilbury Multi-Miracle Glow on her shoulders and chest to make the skin look luminous.

Julia Louis Dreyfus 2014 Golden Globes Look by Votre Vu

Celebrity makeup artist Karen Kawahara created the look for Julia Louis Dreyfus at the 2014 Golden Globes using Votre Vu products. The bright orangey-red color dress inspired her to focus the look on a stronger eye with a lighter lip.

“Votre Vu Attentive Crème du Jour was used to prep the skin while the Amour D’Ore Multi-Vitamin Oil was placed applied to her body before hair and nails to ensure that it had time to absorb into the skin. I also applied a little bit of the Luxee Yeux as well around the eye contour.

I applied the Love Me Deux Foundation in Cannes to the entire face and concealed the under eye with a mixture of the Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light and Medium.

I also used the Lingerie Pour Les Yeux in Light all over the lids and applied powder on top of it to ensure that the eyeshadows lasted all night. I like to apply eyeliner first to create the shape I want in the eye and then shadow on top of that. I used Le Joli Crayon in Charbon and pushed it in between the lashes, then started with a very thin line in the inner eye, gradually getting thicker towards the outside. I added a little wing on the corners to give the eyes a lift. To create a popping eye, I used Votre Vu’s Palette in Play in Copper. The lightest vanilla shadow was placed towards the inside of the eye and the lighter copper color was brushed over about ¾ of the outside lid.

I also, very lightly, lined the inside of the eye with a burgundy color. The darker copper color in the Palette in Play was also placed close to the bottom lashes underneath the eye. To finish off the eyes, I used Eiffel Power Mascara as well as some individual lashes.

Vu-On Rouge Color Accent in Bouquet Rose was used to give some color on the lip and cheeks. I applied all over the cheek using my finger. I wanted to create pale lip, so I used a lip brush to apply the color and went over with soft coral for a bit of sheen.

I mixed the Arch de Triumphe in Fair and Dark Brown to go over the brows since I didn’t want them to seem too dark.

Then I used the Beaute en Bronze Blush which was very sheer and then applied the Dior Blush in Amber on top for a bit more color.

Lastly, I set her makeup with Belle Poudre in Light.”

NARS worked with celebrity makeup artist Leslie Lopez to create presenter Gwyneth Paltrow’s red carpet look at the 84th annual Academy Awards!

"It’s elegantly bronzed,” said celebrity makeup artist Leslie Lopez for NARS Cosmetics about the red carpet look she created for Gwyneth Paltrow. “The dress makes such a statement, but it also has no color, so we needed to create a makeup look that complemented the dress and was still sophisticated enough for the red carpet. I really loved the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer because it gives a sun-kissed look to her skin, and perfect against a white dress!”

Golden Globes Style - NARS

Makeup by Toby Fleischman for NARS Cosmetics
Inspiration:
"Sometimes the stars just align (pun intended) and tonight with nominee Evan Rachel Wood, her look came together so organically. Of course with a Gucci Premiere gown such as hers, it was all about the dress so we wanted to keep the make up clean and soft.
When I saw the new NARS Spring collection, it was as if the products were created specifically for this look!  We had so much fun getting ready for the big day. We rocked out to some of our favorite tunes (Lykke Li), ate some yummy snacks (cookies of course) and most importantly laughed!"
The Look:
Paramaribo Duo Eyeshadow (new for Spring 2012) was the exact gilded gold and bronze we wanted to create a soft metallic eye that would pick up the accent of the feathers.  Then we used Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara on the lashes to finish the eye (ok maybe more than one coat!).
To keep the rest of the face feminine, the new NARS Gaiety Blush (new for Spring 2012) was amazing for a sheer flush of pink on the cheek along with a swipe of good-old standby NARS Angelika Blush to add a bit of shimmer.
NARS Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil topped off with Como Larger Than Life Lip Gloss gave Evan a soft mauve pink lip to complete the look.

Golden Globes Style - Hair by Wella

Michelle Williams, winner for Best Actress had her hair styled by Chris McMillan using Wella Professionals.

Chris says, “Michelle looks incredible with this short, modern Mia Farrow inspired style.  It’s a retro ‘60s combined with Flapper flair type of look that shows there’s still a lot of glamour and versatility with short hair.”
  1. First, apply Wella Professionals Natural Volume Styling Mousse to wet hair and then shape hair with hands to air dry naturally in the direction of the style.
  2. Once dry, use hands and a hair dryer directed at the roots to give extra lift at the crown and body throughout.
  3. Then apply Wella Professionals Mirror Polish because the shine serum adds a polished finish while smoothing hair into a shape.
  4. Adding a simple black headband with jeweled brooch gives a modern spin to this retro look.
  5. Push bangs over to the side where the jewel is positioned for a heavy fringe effect.
  6. Spray Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray to smooth hair down and give hold throughout the night.

The beautiful Busy Phillips had her hair styled by Chris McMillan using Wella Professionals for this evening’s Golden Globes. Just yesterday, she was at the Wella Professionals Beauty Bar with her young daughter, where they both had their hair styled in matching braid updos.

“What I love about Wella stylers is that they are light and there’s no product buildup so the hair still has a natural look and won’t get weighed down throughout the night,” Chris explains.

  1. Prep wet hair with Wella Professionals Natural Volume Styling Mousse and loosely dry for a textured finish.
  2. Spray Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray while hair is nearly dry so it’s slightly piecy and pull into a imperfect, textured French twist.
  3. Add a headband at the top of the head to complete the look for an added touch of elegance.

Wella Professionals stylists have been busy tonight creating the top stars’ hair looks for the Golden Globes. Here are the details on Shailene Woodley’s hair look, styled by Campbell McAuley for Wella Professionals.

1. First, prep wet hair using Wella Professionals Velvet Amplifier and then let dry naturally with a diffuser. Campbell says “I love this product because it makes the hair look healthy and shiny and gives great volume.
2.  Once nearly dry, lightly mist hair with Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray before using a 1 ¾ curling iron to enhance natural waves.
3. Once hair is prepped, then take a section from crown to ears to divide hair into a front and back split section.
4. At the back section, pull hair back into a ponytail, not pulling it too tight so that there is still a natural hair movement.
5. Spray Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight Shine Spray in the front section to give the best glossy finish for the red carpet.
6. Then, sculpt hair into a side parted wavy style with hands moving into a beautiful twisted bun.
7. Finish off with Wella Professionals Stay Essential Hairspray

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist Andy LeCompte has provided his inside scoop on styling MADONNA with Wella Professionals for her win on tonight’s Golden Globes Awards.

According to Andy, “Madonna wanted easy natural texture hair.”
“To start, I rough dried her hair manipulating and emphasizing her natural texture.  Next I applied a mist of Wella’s Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray to protect the hair from thermal heat as well as give the hair a slight bit of texture.  I spray this before I use my FHI platform 1 inch flat iron to make soft S formations, giving the hair a natural wave texture.  Then finish with a mist of Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz Beach Texture Spray.  One of Andy’s fave product, he says “I love Wella’s Ocean Spritz to break up the texture.”
