'Signature Straight' Hair Style Tutorial with John Frieda Frizz Ease
Not just for the humid weather, but year round, I turn to John Frieda's Frizz Ease products to tame fly-aways and keep my hair from frizzing. One essential product for me is John Frieda's Straight Fixation styling cream. I use this daily to get my 'signature straight' hair style. Here are the steps I take to get this look:
Tools and products I use:
- round brush
- clip(s)
- comb
- hair dryer
- flat iron
- Straight Fixation styling cream
1 - Comb through clean hair with wide tooth comb and part your hair where it usually falls or off to the side.
2 - Apply a dime size amount of Frizz Ease Straight Fixation to your hair and evenly distribute with a comb (use more or less depending on the thickness and length of hair)
3 - Divide your hair into sections with your clip(s) (I usually start with one side and section into 3 parts at a time)
4 - Use hair dryer and round brush to blow dry each section at a time. I use my brush to roll my hair straight out, away from my face, and then under, making sure the hair dryer stays pointed at the round brush and hair until the very end, so the ends are straight.
5 - After all the sections are done, I like to take the front chunk of my hair, on both sides of my part (maybe still a little damp), and blow dry it forward, and then re-part it. My hair dresser gave me this trick. It helps to give lift and body to the front portion of my hair, so it doesn't lay flat against my forehead.
6 - When my hair is completely dry I go through the sections again (without clipping) with my flat iron. I don't use a very hot iron. I usually set my temperature to around 250-300 degrees.
7 - Voila! My 'signature straight' hair style.

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster Review
It's now mid-April in Michigan, and it's been 70 and sunny the last few days, but just a week ago, it snowed! I'm sure everyone from the south are tired of hearing about this harsh winter, but trust me, it's taking a toll on everyone involved, both mentally and physically. When it's sunny out everyone seems to be in a great mood! But when it's cold, it's a downer! And it doesn't just have an effect on my mood. My poor, dry skin, has been suffering this winter too.
Normally I don't do much testing with skincare products. I have really sensitive skin and I usually don't like to rock the boat. But since we've had this extremely cold and dry weather, I've caved. I've been testing out several different moisturizers and treatments to help protect my skin against this weather.
One of the moisturizers I was able to test was Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster. I've seen great results from this product! I've been using it religiously under my moisturizer for about 3 weeks now and have been extremely happy with the results: softer skin, less redness in the morning, and no breakouts.
The consistency of this product is just like water, which is also the first ingredient. According to the site, it's suppose to not only help with redness but also with fine lines. It also contains hyaluronic acid, panthenol, glycolipids and algae extract. No artificial fragrances or colors are added.
The directions on the box suggest mixing this with your existing moisturizing, but I've been applying it directly to my skin, and then a layer of my moisturizer over it (sometimes). A little goes a long way, so I can see this 1 oz bottle lasting awhile.
A little goes a long way with this formula, and I can see this 1oz bottle lasting a long time. And after seeing really good results from this product, I definitely want to try out more Demalogica products. You can purchase Dermalogica from their site and also at Ulta Stores. This product retails for $56.
Have you tried Dermalogica products before? If so, which are your favorite?

Beauty Blogger Coalition Weekly Round Up - February 2
What's Your Skincare Regimen?
My mom started me off on a skin care routine at a very young age. I always washed my face before bed and made trips to the dermatologist for breakouts and skincare advice. Thanks for starting me on a good path Mom! Now, in my early thirties, my skin care routine is MUCH more time and labor intensive than it was when I was in junior high. But the time you invest in taking care of your skin is worth every second. You only get one skin, so you have to take care of it!
My basic skincare routine contains two important steps...cleansing and moisturizing! I have extremely sensitive skin, so I use a gentle cleanser with a washcloth, morning and night. Once or twice a week I exfoliate with my Clarisonic. After my AM cleansing I use moisturizer with SPF in it. At night I use a thicker lotion. My house is so dry - I feel like I need double the moisturizer when I sleep so it can work harder for my skin.
If I'm not planning on wearing makeup, I usually just moisturize and then I'm done. But on days I'm going to work and wearing makeup, I've been trying out adding a skin primer to my skin care routine. I've tried primers in the past, but they usually made me breakout. I was recently sent Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex to try out and have had major success! No breakouts!
I've been using Olay Regenerist skin-perfecting primer for about two and a half weeks now and haven't seen a single pimple or skin irritation. In fact, after using it for a week, the nurse at my doctor's office said my skin looked very healthy and that I was glowing!
I love how this skin primer feels on my skin. Super soft, like satin. I sometimes put it over my morning lotion, but sometimes I wear it by itself. My makeup goes on so nicely over top of it. It really does give me a smooth canvas to work with! It's also suppose to instantly reduce the look of pores, fine lines and wrinkles.
I was also sent a sample of Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream & Lash Serum Duo. This combo is suppose to hydrate your eye area and your eyelashes, helping your eyes to look brighter and eye area to look firmer. I've been using this eye cream two times day, once before applying makeup and the second time after washing my face at night. I'm a firm believer that your eye area can never get enough moisture!
The concept of hydrating my lashes is new to me. I've been using the Lash Serum before I apply my morning mascara and at night. I've only been using it for about 2 weeks so I think it still may be too early to tell results just yet, but will keep everyone posted! This duo can be separated to only carry one or the other, which is a nice option for traveling.
I'd love to hear about your skin care routine and any secrets to prepping your face for makeup. Do you have a favorite primer you use? How long have you been doing the same routine? Please share in the comments below!
Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Olay through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Eye Cream & Lash Serum Duo and Regenerist Wrinkle Revolution Complex, all opinions are my own.

Zoya Cashmere Collection
I couldn't get to this collection fast enough to swatch on my nails, so I decided to give you sneak peak on a nail wheel. This is Zoya's Cashmere collection. The colors are so rich and perfect for Fall. Now that we're into September, I think it's time to go darker on my nails...
My favorite colors from this line are Livingston and Sailor. Livingston is a bright red that will be fun to wear with neutral color clothing, especially with black, it will really pop. Sailor is a deep, deep, blue that I will wear to an upcoming University of Michigan tailgate for sure. It can look black in some light. With leather in this Fall, this will look great paired with a leather jacket or a top with black leather trim.
I'll report back on the wear time for this line in a later post. In the meantime, please leave me a comment below and let me know what your favorite Fall nail polish is...

Weekend Shopping Haul
We covered so much ground shopping this weekend. Lots of good finds with the mother and sister in law in town!
As I was leaving H&M I told my mother in law, "all I want is a belt with a big bow on it." And the first thing I saw when I walked into Zara in Soho was....
Bam! Isn't this cute? It comes in cream too. $19.99
I'm on a blazer kick, even in the summer, I like to wear them over dresses. This purple one caught my eye at Century 21. It's made by Vivienne Tam. It's a little bit thicker than my summer blazers, so I'm going to tuck it away for Fall. I love the detail of the button, very 'royal' looking. It actually looked pretty cute over the Jessica Simpson top. I can pair it with skinny jeans in the fall, or wear it over a dress and tights.

I was happy the forecast said rain today so I could wear my new Dizzy rain boots (or I should probably say, booties)! I got these at Laila Rowe at W84th and Columbus. Super cute store with a large selection of fun rain boots and accessories. These ankle rain booties retail at $24.
I really wanted a new laptop bag for work. Something that looked a little more like a purse to transfer from work to night. I found this Remi & Reid bag at Century 21. I love the individual pockets inside for my work badge and phone, and hidden pockets outside for my subway card. The fringe is on a keyring so I can remove it when I get annoyed with it. Kind of excited for Fall now...
I love Jessica Simpson's tops, dresses and shoes. I found this Jessica Simpson top at Century 21. The front is solid grey, and the back is a sheer, creme, pleated back. This will look cute paired with skinny jeans, a long necklace and flats.
