Before wax
· Exfoliate the area to be waxed with an exfoliating scrub such as the True Blue Spa Invigorating Spa Scrub
· Make sure hair is at least ¼ inch long before you wax
· I suggest taking an aspirin or drinking a glass of wine an hour before your appointment or at home wax to minimize the pain
During Wax- if you choose to wax at home
· Make sure the area is clean and dry
· Sprinkle some baby powder onto the area to be waxed
· Apply a thin layer of wax in the direction of hair growth
· Pull wax strips off in the opposite direction of hair growth
· Use one hand to pull the wax and use the other to stretch skin to help minimize pain
· Remember to wax small areas at a time
· My favorite at home wax kit is the Bliss Poetic Waxing Kit
After wax
· Apply an aloe lotion or gel onto the treated area to soothe the skin
· If desired, apply an ingrown hair protector gel after waxing the bikini area
· Wear loose cotton pants or a skirt to let the treated area breathe
Myth: Shaving causes hair to grow in thicker and waxing causes hair to grow back lighter. In reality, it really only appears this way because when you shave, hair grows in all at the same time where with waxing the hair grows in at different times.
